This trip is designed for those seeking an authentic backcountry skiing experience in Norway. Our focus is on strategy, to optimize weather and snow conditions. There may be days when we get up very early or leave very late. This improves our chances of being at the right place at the right time.
Participants should be prepared for full days of ski touring, involving ascents and descents in all types of snow conditions.
We are excited to use the MS Strønstad as our ski and sail vessel. This boat regularly travels between Tromsø and Alta through the fjords and visits many mountains on the way, dropping off ski and sail adventurers using their off-board RIB boat.
With an on-board desalinator, this boat can also anchor in places that most boats avoid due to the risk of running out of fresh water on board.
After a long day of skiing, enjoy an apres and then relax in the onboard sauna or hot tub.
The boat offers shared occupancy rooms, single rooms can be available for an additional charge upon request.

Tromsø has many hotels, and we highly recommend the Smarthotel due to its excellent value for money and its convenient walking distance to the boat. We suggest arriving one day early to settle in, which also provides the opportunity to address any equipment malfunctions or forgotten items.
You will meet your Guide at 5pm at the dock before boarding the boat.

We visit stunning locations that offer spectacular views, incredible terrain, and are perfectly suited for a ski and sail operation. Our destination is often determined just 24 hours before departure, as we meticulously analyze weather, tides, wind, and snow quality. Your guide collaborates closely with the captain and crew to select the best location. Some spots are common docks and harbors, while others are anchored in serene, remote areas.
The example itinerary below gives you an idea of some locations we may explore during your expedition. We may spend one or two nights at each location depending on weather and conditions.
Ski touring in the Lyngen Alps offers an unforgettable adventure amid breathtaking scenery. These stunning peaks rise dramatically from the fjords, providing a unique backdrop for skiers seeking both thrill and tranquility. The combination of deep snow, varied terrain, and remote trails ensures a truly immersive experience in nature. Unlike many ski resorts, the Lyngen Alps allow you to carve your own path, creating a sense of freedom and exploration. With the mesmerizing Northern Lights above and the vast wilderness surrounding you, it's a truly magical destination for ski enthusiasts looking for something extraordinary.
Uløya Tinden is an island east of the Lyngen Alps. Because of its location, it offers some of the best views of the Lyngen Alps. This 1,100 m peak is an easy ascent and an exhilarating descent. The hardest part is focusing on the skiing, as you'll be looking around at the most extraordinary views.
Ringvassøya is a stunning island located near Tromsø, Norway. This remarkable destination is particularly renowned for its excellent skiing conditions, especially during poor weather, making it a favorite for adventurers seeking a thrilling experience. The island provides a natural shelter from the rough and unpredictable oceans, allowing skiers to enjoy their sport in a safer environment. Additionally, Ringvassøya boasts impressive peaks reaching heights of 1,100 meters, offering breathtaking views for those who hike or ski to the summits. When the snow stability is optimal, skiers can also enjoy challenging technical descents that promise excitement and unforgettable memories.
Above 70° north, Arnøya or Árdni is the 15th largest island in Norway. Arnøya is a relatively quiet island with less than 40 total inhabitants. 30-degree slopes with amazing ocean views. You get to see all of the Lyngen Alps and the surrounding islands from this location. The YouTube video below is a perfect descent down Arnøya.
Just a reminder. This is an EXAMPLE ITINERARY. Yours locations may be different due to conditions, weather, and group ability.

Most brochures showcase perfect sunny days atop mountains blanketed in fresh snow, the very reasons you come to Norway. However, they often overlook the reality that it's not always like that. Snow must fall from the sky, and with this precipitation comes wind and rough seas. Being stuck on a monohull sailboat can be challenging in such conditions. Fortunately, with a hot tub and a sauna, plus ample space, these days transform into comfortable rest days. While you relax in the hot tub with a beverage, you might spot other ski and sail groups wandering the harbor or gazing at you with envy from their decks. It's these unique amenities that truly set us apart from other ski and sail trips.

We prioritize safety across all trips, but backcountry travel and sea-based adventures inherently involve risk. Eliminating that risk entirely would fundamentally change the nature of the experience—removing the exploration, challenge, and variability that define it.
All trips are led by guides certified by associations that are members of the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA), the global standard for professional mountain guiding. This certification requires extensive training, rigorous assessment, and years of practical experience across multiple disciplines, including avalanche risk management, technical rescue, and decision-making in complex mountain environments. This ensures a consistently high level of expertise, judgment, and professionalism on all trips.
Each day, guides evaluate weather, snowpack, terrain, avalanche hazard, and group capability. Objectives may be adjusted in real time based on these assessments.
Participation requires acknowledgment and acceptance of the inherent risks of backcountry travel, including avalanches, tree wells, variable weather, complex terrain, cliffs, crevasses, rockfall, open creeks, and other natural hazards. Participants are responsible for operating within their ability level and must arrive with the fitness, technical skills, and resilience required for a full day of winter travel in variable and demanding terrain.
