The Boat

Ski and Sail on the MS Strønstad
The Boat image

Lots of space. Comfortable.

MS Strønstad

Room typeDorm Room

We are excited to use the MS Strønstad as our ski and sail vessel. This boat regularly travels between Tromsø and Alta through the fjords and visits many mountains on the way, dropping off ski and sail adventurers using their off-board RIB boat.

With an on-board desalinator, this boat can also anchor in places that most boats avoid due to the risk of running out of fresh water on board.

After a long day of skiing, enjoy an apres and then relax in the onboard sauna or hot tub.

We visit stunning locations that offer spectacular views, incredible terrain, and are perfectly suited for a ski and sail operation. Our destination is often determined just 24 hours before departure, as we meticulously analyze weather, tides, wind, and snow quality. Your guide collaborates closely with the captain and crew to select the best location. Some spots are common docks and harbors, while others are anchored in serene, remote areas.

The example itinerary below gives you an idea of some locations we may explore during your expedition. We may spend one or two nights at each location depending on weather and conditions.

Value added activities

The weather is not always perfect in Norway, and we have you covered for those days
Value added activities image

What the others won't say in their brochures.

general icon

The weather can really be brutal

Most brochures showcase perfect sunny days atop mountains blanketed in fresh snow, the very reasons you come to Norway. However, they often overlook the reality that it's not always like that. Snow must fall from the sky, and with this precipitation comes wind and rough seas. Being stuck on a monohull sailboat can be challenging in such conditions. Fortunately, with a hot tub and a sauna, plus ample space, these days transform into comfortable rest days. While you relax in the hot tub with a beverage, you might spot other ski and sail groups wandering the harbor or gazing at you with envy from their decks. It's these unique amenities that truly set us apart from other ski and sail trips.

Mountain Risk image

RISK DISCLOSURE

warning icon

We prioritize safety across all trips, but backcountry travel and sea-based adventures inherently involve risk. Eliminating that risk entirely would fundamentally change the nature of the experience—removing the exploration, challenge, and variability that define it.

All trips are led by guides certified by associations that are members of the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA), the global standard for professional mountain guiding. This certification requires extensive training, rigorous assessment, and years of practical experience across multiple disciplines, including avalanche risk management, technical rescue, and decision-making in complex mountain environments. This ensures a consistently high level of expertise, judgment, and professionalism on all trips.

Each day, guides evaluate weather, snowpack, terrain, avalanche hazard, and group capability. Objectives may be adjusted in real time based on these assessments.

Participation requires acknowledgment and acceptance of the inherent risks of backcountry travel, including avalanches, tree wells, variable weather, complex terrain, cliffs, crevasses, rockfall, open creeks, and other natural hazards. Participants are responsible for operating within their ability level and must arrive with the fitness, technical skills, and resilience required for a full day of winter travel in variable and demanding terrain.

Waiver

All participants must complete the waiver.
